Lismore's Creative Hub: A New Business with a Community Twist
The buzz around Eggins Lane continues! Just when we thought the area couldn't get more vibrant, a new business emerges, adding a unique twist to the local scene. Last week, we introduced you to the Blah Bar and the Living School's renovations, but there's more to uncover.
Enter Gemma Hall, a local artist with a vision. She stumbled upon 10 County Lane, a hidden gem, and instantly knew it was the perfect spot for her art business, 'Art With Wings'. But here's where the story takes an unexpected turn.
Gemma's quote reveals her passion: "I fell for this place due to its prime location and the potential to become a community hub. It's right in the town's heart, a dream venue for any artist!" But her plans evolved beyond a personal studio.
She continues, "I wanted to enrich the CBD's life by inviting local creatives to share their skills. The Living School's vision aligns with mine, and I aim to support their initiatives. Together, we can revive this area and bring people together." And thus, a simple studio concept transformed into a bustling community center.
The space is in high demand! From Casper's training sessions to the Living School's Q&A events and dance gatherings, it's a hive of activity. Gemma even hosts dance classes, singing circles, and art groups for seniors and people with disabilities. It's a true community gathering place.
But here's where it gets controversial: Gemma's original art studio idea has taken a backseat. As the community's needs emerged, she adapted, offering the space to various groups. Yet, she's determined to revive her art business, starting with art classes for ladies with disabilities and mural workshops.
What sets Gemma's business apart is its resilience. Designed with flood-prone Lismore in mind, the space is minimalist, with a sprung dance floor and a large projector as the only heavy items. This ensures a quick evacuation when floods threaten.
